Photo Meme day 3: a photo that makes you happy

This photo makes happy in a strange way. It’s a scary picture. Oliver is not well in this picture. But this is when I started to breathe again, when I started to have more than just hope and prayer again. For those of you who have recently started reading. This picture was taken when Oliver was very sick, and I had not held him for a week. He’s less than a month old, and this picture was taken shortly after they had removed the machine that was breathing for him. I was finally able to hold him.

But this picture (below) also sticks out in my mind, because it was around this time that I started to relax a little and not freak out about every little thing.

But this is a picture that makes me smile, and reminds me of how much I love my little family:

Photo Meme Day 2: a photo of yourself a year ago

A year ago I was miserably pregnant, while excited about Oliver’s impending arrival. I was mostly hiding from the camera at this point. I’d done a good job of taking regular progression photos while I was pregnant with Landon, but I just didn’t want to do it this time. It didn’t have anything to do with the baby, but everything to do with the fact that this pregnancy was harder on me than the first one, and that I felt huge and uncomfortable and stressed out and worried. So, there are only a few pictures of me from this time. I did try to take a few shots just to show pregnancy progression, and here is one of them:

Family history in Photos

There is a very long Kodak commercial that so encompasses how I feel about photos. I love photos, and I feel that they create a record of what has gone before for our children. I love old photos, and it makes me sad when I think about how many have come before that I know nothing about.

My great grandfather, Joe, immigrated to the United States with his wife and two daughters from Latvia. He got a job at Kodak, of all places. I’ve been told that at the time, Kodak actually had a “No Jews” hiring policy. He managed to avoid discussing or revealing his faith in order to get and keep the job at Kodak.

How awesome is this picture?

Family

It has Landon’s great great grandfather, the affore mentioned Joe, in it. It has three generations in it. I only know what some of these people look like based on old pictures like this.

And then add in amazing pictures like this one, where I can see how my father’s memory and spirit is captured in my own children:

Pictures are so important to me. They are a family history to me. And that’s why I always have my camera. I’m so sorry if you are one of those people who dislikes having your picture taken. I’m sorry if the bright flash from my camera temporarily blinds you. But I hope this helps you understand a little bit more why I do what I do, and why I upload my pictures on the internet, back them up on my computer, and then back them up again to another server.

We put Ollie in long sleeves for the first time in a long time, and he had no idea what long sleeves were or what to do with them. He kept looking at them and pulling at them! It was adorable.

Landon and Em ran around and had a lot of fun. She didn’t like that Landon wanted to play video games the whole time. Landon didn’t like that Em wanted to color. The still got along really well.

We hiked The Houston Mesa Trail for a while, and checked out the Shoofly ruins, since the waterfall is still closed.

You can see all the Cabin trip pictures, if you so desire.

Payson trip Sept 2010

We had an excellent weekend at the cabin. Jamie, Gyan, and Emily joined us.
I’m pretty tired, so is Bobby, and we are both GRUMPY.

Anyway you can see all the Cabin trip pictures, if you so desire. We got some cute ones. Also, weirdly, there are about 10 pictures which actually contain me. I don’t mind my picture, however, since I am usually playing camera woman, I don’t turn up in them very often.

I think this is my most favorite picture ever.
