update on Ollie ICU

In the night they weaned him off the dopamine, so he is off all the meds that kept his blood pressure up. He’s still on the Milrinone, which helps blood profusion, but they are lowering that today. Dr. A says that she plans to extubate him from the respirator at some point in the next 24 hours, so keep your fingers crossed that it goes smoothly.
In the night, they also took out original IV in his arm, and the arterial line in his arm, so at this point he still has the central line in his neck, the “PIC” line in his head, and one IV line in his foot. Since he’s on less meds, they need less sites to insert them. They were measuring his blood pressure through his arterial line, so we could look at it all the time, now they are taking a cuff pressure every 5-15 minutes.
I have a special thank you that needs to go out to all our Thursday night dinner crew. They held a moment for Oliver, and right after they finished, he opened his eyes for the first time in a week. You guys rock. Thank you so much for helping out little Ollie.
Keep those prayers and positive energy coming, they really do help!

nightly update

Ollie had a pretty good day. He did have an IV line put in his head today, which looks worse than it is.
They lowered the dopamine today, and are thinking about having him off the vent by the end of the day tomorrow.
OMG!! He just opened his eyes!!! I haven’t seen his eyes since Saturday!
He got his blood transfusion.
The infectious disease doctor has NO IDEA what caused all this. He was very, “It’s not this or this or this or this. I don’t know what it is. I don’t know what else it could be.” LAME. Yesterday he was telling me how we would get to the bottom of this. Today he has no idea. Everyone was in shock that Ollie’s spinal fluid looked so good. Anyway, so test results on that I expect to see on Sunday/Monday.
They still want to do an MRI or Catscan thing, I don’t know when. Whenever he is stable. He seems pretty stable to me.
Hopefully we will be off the respirator by tomorrow night. Cross your fingers!
He’s still full of tubes and everything. He has an IV in his left leg, an arterial line in his neck, a peripheral inserted central catheter, a central line in his neck, and the original IV line in his right hand. And let us not forget the vent tube and his catheter in his weewee.
Basically I’m telling you that while he is improving, he’s still a very sick little boy. Keep that positive energy flowing, it’s totally helping him, and just knowing that you are doing it is helping his parents feel more optimistic too.
